Finding Joy in Our Work: It's a Team Sport

In this session we’ll use positive psychology and playful teamwork to find joy in the midst of our global pandemic.

Jeremy Fish, MD, is the founding program director for the new John Muir Health Family Medicine Residency Program, a community-based, UCSF-affiliated 8-8-8 program focused on producing high-value, full-spectrum ambulatory family physicians with an emphasis on partnership, teamwork, leadership and advocacy, personal and professional well-being, and scholarly improvement.   Prior to joining John Muir Health in 2014, Dr. Fish was program director at a premier inpatient full-spectrum program at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, where he was involved in residency leadership for 17 years, on faculty and had previously trained and graduated in 1994.   He completed the UCSF Faculty Development Fellowship in 1999 where he continued on as faculty starting in 2008 and co-founded the CAFP California Residency Network in 2011.   He has been recognized for his regional and statewide educational leadership by the California Academy of Family Physicians as the 2014 Family Physician Hero of the Year and 2020 Family Physician of the Year.   He lives in Oakland with his wife of 25 years, Susan, and their University of Oregon senior son, Ben, who is also a skilled tennis instructor.  In his spare time he enjoys reading, hikes, and pretending he is training for the Tour de France on his bike in the Berkeley and Oakland Hills.

Walter Mills, MD, MMM, is clinical professor in the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine having been on the clinical faculty since 1986. He is DIO and Director of Medical Education, Associate Director for the UCSF Natividad Family Medicine Residency Program in Salinas, California. Dr. Mills is immediate past president of CAFP and an AAFP Consultant for Residency Program Solutions. His professional passions are physician well-being and teaching equity and justice. He is still learning to surf.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST STATEMENTS

The California Academy of Family Physicians' (CAFP) Committee on Continuing Professional Development is responsible for identification, management and resolution of conflict for any individual who may have the potential to influence content, who have served as faculty, or who may produce CME/CPD content for the CAFP.  Management/Resolution may include learner notification, peer review of content before presentation, requirement of EB-CME, changing topics, or even dismissing a potential planning or faculty member.

This Enduring Material activity, Finding Joy in Our Work:  It’s a Team Sport, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 0.50 Prescribed credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP certification begins November 23, 2020. Term of approval is for one year from this date.

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credits™ toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
